Compile and PDF

Compile your project, check errors, and view or download the PDF.

Compile

Click Compile at the top of the editor, or press Ctrl + S (⌘ + S on Mac). Your project also compiles once automatically when you open it.

Click the arrow next to Compile (Compile options) for these options:

  • Clear cache & recompile: clears the previous compile output and compiles from scratch.
  • Text-only Compilation: compiles only the text, without images, so you can check the PDF faster.

If no main document is set, you'll see "Please set a main TeX file to compile." Set it in Project settings or with Set as main document in the file list's right-click menu.

Check errors and warnings

Click the Compile logs button at the top of the editor to open Logs and output files. The button shows the number of errors, and the panel opens automatically if no PDF was produced.

Click Show details to expand an entry, and click its location to jump to that line in the file. To let Murfy AI fix errors, see Fix compile errors.

When compiling fails

For documents with Korean, Japanese, or Chinese text, a package hint may appear on the left side of the editor. Click Add usepackage to add the packages you need.

View the PDF

Use the toolbar above the PDF to change pages (Prev, Next), change the size (Zoom out, Zoom in, Fit to width, Fit to height), and download the PDF (Download).

Move between source and PDF

  • Double-click text in the editor to highlight the same spot in the PDF.
  • Double-click the PDF to jump to that part of the source in the editor.

Change the layout

Choose from the Layout menu at the top of the editor.

  • Split view: editor and PDF side by side
  • Editor only
  • PDF only
  • Open PDF in separate window: shows the PDF in another window

PDF in a separate window

In the separate window, the title shows your project name followed by "PDF Viewer".

  • The window has its own Compile button, with Clear cache & recompile, and its own Compile logs button.
  • Double-clicking works between the editor and the PDF here too.
  • Murfy remembers the window's size and position and uses them the next time you open it.
  • When you close the window, the editor goes back to Split view.

Preview AI changes in the PDF

When Murfy AI suggests changes to your files, turn on Preview in the toolbar that appears over the file. Murfy then compiles a version with the suggested changes applied, so you can check the PDF before you accept them. Turn Preview off to compile your original project again. It turns off by itself once there are no suggestions left to review. See Murfy AI.
