Comments and Track Change

Reply to, edit, resolve, and react to comments, and accept or reject suggested changes.

This page covers working with comments and suggested changes after you've added them. To add your first comment or turn on Track Change, see Real-time Collaboration.

The Feedback panel

Click the arrow button in the editor header to open or close the Feedback panel. Its tooltip says Open feedback or Close feedback.

  • The badge next to Feedback is the number of comments (99+ when there are more than 99).
  • The Current file tab shows the comments of the file you have open, next to the lines they refer to. The Overview tab lists comments for every file, grouped by file.
  • Turn on Include resolved to show resolved comments too.

Add a comment

  1. Select text in the editor and click Comment in the menu that appears.
  2. Type your note in the box ("Add a comment...") and click Send. Press Esc to close the box without sending.

Reply to a comment

Type in the "Add a reply..." box at the bottom of the comment card and click Send. A card shows the latest two replies. Click "View N more replies" to see the rest, and Hide replies to collapse them.

Edit or delete

Delete your commentOpen the More menu in the card header and choose Delete. Confirm in the Delete comment dialog. Deleted comments can't be restored

An edited comment is marked "(Modified)". You can only edit or delete your own comments and replies, and you can't edit a resolved comment. Delete for a whole comment is available on the Current file tab.

If the text a comment referred to is later deleted, the card shows an Original text removed label.

Resolve a comment

Click the check button (Resolve) in the comment card header. The comment is marked as resolved and hidden from the list. Click the button again (Unresolve) to reopen it. You can do this on the Current file tab.

Resolved comments look dimmed, and you can't reply to them or add reactions. Turn on Include resolved to see them.

React with emojis

Hover over a comment and click Add reaction, then pick one of 👍 👀 ✅ 💖 💪. The count appears under the comment. Click an emoji you already picked to remove it. Hover over a reaction to see who reacted.

Open the More menu in the card header and choose Copy link. The link opens the project at that comment.

Accept or reject suggested changes

When Track Change is on, your edits are recorded as suggestions. Each suggestion appears as a card in the Feedback panel with the file, the author, and the time.

IconCard type
PlusAdd: new text was inserted
MinusDelete: text was removed
PencilEdit: text was removed and new text was added

Long suggestions are shortened. Click Show more to read all of it, and Show less to collapse it.

To decide on a suggestion, open the Current file tab and click Accept or Reject on the card.

  • Accept: the change is applied. You'll see "Tracked changes have been applied."
  • Reject: the change is not applied. You'll see "Tracked changes were not applied."

The Track Change switch and the Accept and Reject buttons are only available to people who can edit files, so Viewers don't see them. See Share a project and manage roles.

The switch is set per project and remembered in your browser. When you turn it on or off, you'll see "Change tracking is now enabled." or "Change tracking has been turned off."
