Murfy AI

Murfy AI is an AI agent you use inside the project screen. It answers questions, and when you ask for a change, it edits your paper's files directly. You review each change and accept or reject it.

AI can make mistakes. Double-check important information.

Open Murfy AI

Click the AI icon (AI Agent) in the left sidebar of the project screen to open the Murfy AI panel.

In a new session, you can start with one of the TRY ASKING suggestions:

• Fix compile errors
• Create a 4×4 table
• Insert a figure
• Add an equation
• Add a citation

You can also type your own request. Press Enter to send.

Add context to your request

• Mention a file: type @ in the input box to search for a project file and insert it.
• Selected text: select text in the editor and click Add to chat in the menu that appears to attach that passage.
• Attachments: click the paperclip button, drag files into the input box, or paste them.

Attachment limits:

Review changes

When Murfy AI edits a file, the changes are marked in the editor. You decide whether to apply them.

• Click Accept or Reject on each change.
• Use the toolbar at the bottom of the editor to move between changes (Prev, Next), or handle them all at once with Accept All or Reject All.
• Click the eye button (Preview) to preview the result.

Move between changes with the keyboard

While the editor shows changes from Murfy AI, you can jump between them without the toolbar.

When there are no changes to review, these keys keep their usual behavior in the editor.

Manage chats

• New chat: starts a new conversation.
• Recents: reopens earlier conversations. You can rename or delete them. Deleted chats can't be restored.

If Murfy AI is still working

Murfy AI can keep working on a request even if your connection to it is interrupted. When you come back to a chat that is still running, or the connection drops while it works, a notice appears above the input box:

AI is still working on your last request. You can send a new message when it's done.

• The input box is disabled until the request finishes, so you can't send a new message in the meantime.
• Murfy tries to reconnect to the running request to get its result.
• If you click the stop button yourself, the notice goes away.

AI credits

Murfy AI, Fix compile errors, Check references, and Review use AI credits. Credits renew every month.

• See how much you have left under AI Credit Usage in the settings sidebar of the project screen, along with the renewal date.
• A notice appears above the input box when you've used 80% and 95%.
• When you run out, you'll see "You've reached your monthly AI credit limit." and can't use Murfy AI until your credits renew. You can change your plan with Upgrade plan.
